Client management software can help just about any business. It is used to organize, store and process data regarding your customers and any information about them you may wish to save and access.
This lets you keep all of this information together for easy access, as well as it being searchable.
Databases can be client based or personal based. These each have their own uses and you will likely have to do a bit more research to figure out which is best for your uses. The main differences include how much data can be stored, number of users, and security.
An example of a personal management system is Microsoft Access. This comes with many of the Microsoft Office bundles. If you already own this, they you may wish to play with it to see if you like it. It does have a steep learning curve, especially if you are not used to working with something like that. You may wish to take a class on it.
Access is great if you are going to be the only person updating the database and you are only going to use it on one computer. Syncing is not easy and you cannot merge two files easily with it either. The information can be networked, if that is an option for you. So that might provide a solution.
Client management software is designed to be used by more than one user and networked. Therefore, it is much easier to use that software in this way than Access. The data is saved to one server, and is allowed access to various computers on the network. The computers need to have a password or other form of secure access in order to reach the data, which may contain information which should not be shared to everyone.
